Tessa Sillars-Powell is a professional crafter and writer who works in television and publishing- teaching the world how to make wondrous things.
She believes there is nothing more satisfying than inspiring creativity and giving people the confidence to get creative through engaging content. Always looking out for the latest craft crazes, Tessa has a passion for experimenting, trying new materials and methods, and making projects that everyone can understand and get involved with- whatever their skill level.
Originally from a seaside town in Devon, she moved away to study Theatre Design at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, in Cardiff. One of her first jobs was with the National Theatre Wales, who she worked on several productions with. After a trip to Reykjavik assisting on a dance show in the National Theatre of Iceland, she decided to move to London. It is here she gained technical skills, creative understanding, and learnt the value of hard work; from making olympic mascots to making giant prop poo for London Zoo, as well becoming a best selling craft writer and author. Her work was simultaneously #1and #2 in Amazons Bestselling Craft books, giving her the opportunity to organise and host The Great British Loom off at Waterstones HQ.
From this Tessa then went on to land a dream job and become Art Director of CBBC's BAFTA nominated art show 'Art Ninja', over three series. Developing creative content and unique projects for specific target audiences is where she found her strength -- and is a running theme within all her work today.
Having knowledge and experience from idea conception to realisation, she is competent in team and project management, contributor liaisons and has the practical skills to make things happen. She is an experienced workshop leader and has tutored to university standard.
A highlight of Tessa's career has been featuring on Blue Peter, presenting her own online exclusive tutorials.
